We have been running a handmade soba (buckwheat noodle) shop in Shibamata, Katsushika-ku for more than 30 years. While offering many people the charm of freshly ground, freshly made, and freshly boiled handmade soba noodles made from our own flour, we also have the pleasure of looking at antiques, old folk tools, and old clothes. Don’t forget to buy a souvenir from the downtown area, starting at 250 yen!

In Shibamata, Katsushika, which retains the atmosphere of downtown Tokyo and is famous as the hometown of Tora-san in the movie “Otoko wa tsuraiyo,” kawachiya has been known as the place to go for eel, carp, and river fish for 250 years. We have maintained the same taste since our establishment. kawachiya started in the 1770s. As the number of visitors to the temple increased, farmers and couples started to open tea stores on the side in Shibamata, which was inconvenient because there were no tea stores. Kawasenke was one of them. Thanks to their efforts, we are now in our 10th generation.

We sell a variety of dried foods such as o-dashi (Japanese soup stock), shichimi pepper, and ama-natto (fermented soybeans).

“Tora-san’s face” is the motif of our store design, and our 400-year-old yaki-manju (Shibamata tamayaki), freshly baked hand-made bread, yomogi bread, red bean paste doughnuts for 100 yen, and chocolate egg coronets for 60 yen are very popular. We will help you enjoy Shibamata with traditional crafts of Katsushika-ku and fun souvenir stories.
